Cant Quit Drinking - Fear of failure preventing you from gettin started??
Fear of failure, the idea that you can't quit drinking, can be a big obstacle. Nobody wants to fail. Nobody wants to be a loser. Besides, if you can't stop or moderate your drinking, you've just demonstrated to the whole world you can't control your drinking. Who the heck wants that. Many times this fear comes from previously unsuccessful attempts to quit. It can come from being successful in every other aspect of our lives and not wanting to even risk being unsuccessful. I know a lot of people like this. They were top students, got great jobs, and everything was going great. Then the alcohol started to catch up to them. Now they knew they should quit but, didn't want to tell anyone. They were afraid they couldn't. If they couldn't, they would have the stigma of alcoholism hanging over them. Try to think of it as going from plan A to plan B. Suppose there is an enemy is out there. It's your job to destroy him. You implement plan A. It is unsuccessful. You switch tactics (go to plan B)and try that. If it doesn't work you're on to plan C. You're a winner, you don't just give up on the first try, you continue until you are successful (You've quit or moderated.)
